Mubarak Alhassan: Liberty sell midfielder to Granada

Liberty Professionals have announced the transfer of enterprising teen midfielder Mubarak Alhassan to Spanish LaLiga side Granada CF.

The transfer fee involved stays undisclosed.

Alhassan, 18, joined the Ghana Premier League side in October 2019 from rivals WAFA SC after spending just 8 months with their second generation team

He went on to take his Ghanaian topflight debut by storm in a five-month spell before the COVID-19 outbreak halted the 2019/20 season.

In 13 league games, Alhassan – the playmaker – had scored five goals and registered the same number of assists.

Mubarak Alhassan joins a long list of Ghanaian players to enjoy stints with the Andalusian club. They include Mubarak Wakaso, Jonathan Mensah, Clifford Aboagye and Aziz Tetteh.

Speaking on the deal, Alhassan whose style is likened to the Spain and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, told Citi Sports:

“This is the best moment in my career to make this move because everyone wants an opportunity like this.

“At an early age, I have always wanted to play for clubs in Spain because I see myself as an [Andres] Iniesta type of player and I was given that name too so I think it’s the best place for me to develop as at now.”

Mubarak Alhassan is expected to begin and adapt to Spanish football from Granada’s Segunda Division side.
