GFA-RAG marriage halved by Referees Manager role

GFA President, Kurt E.S Okraku has revealed that the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) authority on the local leagues is now over after the appointment of the Referee Manager role at the FA.

Last week, the Ghana FA appointed retired FIFA referee Alex Kotey to head the position which is in accordance with FIFA’s regulation.

Alex Kotey handles the general recruitment of referees which used to be the task of RAG and has even outlined his plans earlier.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports, Okraku gave out the reason behind the position and its intended purpose for the FA.

“There is nowhere in the world where referee association controls refereeing. In fact, it doesn’t exist.”

In continuing his explanation, the FA boss added that RAG will continue their welfare duties.

“RAG has their roles to play; they are the welfare body of the referees and they will continue to perform that role.

“If we believe that some of the members can act in different capacities at the FA level, why not.”

For Kotey, a major responsibility of his is the recruiting of young referees for Ghana football.

A policy, enshrined in the manifesto of Kurt Okraku.
