Danish Superliga: Dauda’s Esbjerg demoted after defeat at Hobro

Ghana’s Dauda Mohammed suffered automatic demotion from the Danish Superliga with Esbjerb fB after a 2-1 defeat at Hobro IK on Sunday.

Esbjerg, who had enjoyed topflight football for two straight seasons, needed to win at all costs in the relegation dogfight at DS Arena for a continued spell.

They had striker Dauda Mohammed back in the starting line-up after serving a suspension and deservedly took the lead after six minutes of play through Joni Kauko.

But Esbjerg would allow the hosts to come from behind in the second half in a crazy spell of 5 minutes.

A lapse in communication on the part of former Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone allowed Mads Hvilsom to level the scoring in the 69th minute.  Mannone was beaten again, this time in the 74th minute by Edgar Babayan whose goal ensured Hobro took and protected a 2-1 lead till the final whistle.

Dauda lasted the entire duration of the game but his presence was not enough to help Esbjerg to survive relegation.

Esbjerg fB will now be preparing for life in the Danish second-tier but it’s time up for Dauda who joined the side on a season-long loan from Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht.

Dauda Mohammed, the 22-year-old former Asante Kotoko player, has scored four goals and assisted once in the 20 appearances for Esbjerg fB.
