Obimanso: Jackson Owusu grounded by Kenyan hotel over unpaid bills

Gor Mahia owe both hotel and the player who sometimes is forced to eat once a day.

Locked up in a foreign land, not because of COVID-19 pandemic but unpaid bills, the sad case of broke Ghana midfielder Jackson Owusu.

The former Asante Kotoko star has been left stranded in a hotel by his Kenya club Gor Mahia FC.

Jackson, 31, joined the 18-time league champions during the January transfer window and has since been lodging at Jimlizer Hotel in Buruburu provided by the club.

But the hotel operators have recently limited their services to Jackson and restricted movement due to accrued unpaid bills of over Sh600,000 (over GH¢32,000).

According to Jackson Owusu, he is dead broke and his pleas to the club’s management to settle the debt have not been responded to as quickly as he expected.

“The Chairman (Ambrose Rachier) has always been promising to come on a number of occasions to assist me but he has not been here.

“I am not allowed to leave with anything out of the hotel until there is a commitment from the club that the money will be paid. As at now, I don’t know when this will happen,” he told Nairobi News.

Jackson Owusu, who is owed salaried, also revealed that the matter has really troubled his parents in Ghana who are really worried about the plight of their son in a foreign land.

“My parents are poor and fully depend on me and they live in Kumasi many kilometres away from Accra. But I have been forced to reach out to them and sometimes they have been forced to travel to town and send me something little. You also know that here at the club we have also not been paid and I can’t assist them.

“I survive many a time by only eating one meal in a day and it has to be given out after the attendant has received the go-ahead from the manager. Some fans brought me food on Wednesday and I am really grateful for their kind gesture,” he stated.
