GFA-Startimes sponsorhip: Clubs receive $5000 from broadcast rights deal

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received the first payment of the $5.25 million sponsorship agreement with Startimes, according to Bechem United chief Kingsley Osei Bonsu.

Breakdown of the five-year partnership deal sees Ghana Premier League clubs take $850,000 for the 2019/20 season while $100,000 will be invested in the Division One League and the Women’s League.

Speaking to Otec FM, the Executive Committee member confirmed that an amount of $5,000 has been sent to the accounts of the clubs.

“As a chairman of Bechem United, I received a message from the GFA’s General Secretary, Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo that Startimes have paid part of their sponsorship deal into our (FA’s) account.”

“It’s true there is something like that {we’ve received such an amount} and am sure once I have been informed, the General Secretary will, therefore, inform all the clubs” Bonsu concluded.

The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season is currently suspended due to the outbreak of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
