COVID-19: GFA closes offices nationwide to public

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it has closed its headquarters and all offices nationwide to the public until further notice due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak.

On Thursday afternoon, the country’s Health Officials announced that the pandemic cases had risen to 11 persons.

And in what looks like a reaction to the latest development, the Executive Council of the GFA has decided to encourage its members to use their respective online systems to communicate with the Secretariat. A skeletal staff will be reporting at the office while others work remotely.

“Members of the GFA including clubs, Regional Football Associations, etc. are being reminded to use the online systems of the GFA (email, Registration System – FIFA Connect) to communicate with the Secretariat until the offices reopen,” read a statement on ghanafa.org.

“The GFA will continue to engage with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service on the next steps and inform our staff and stakeholders accordingly of any changes.

“This is part of the precautionary measures being undertaken by the Executive Council of the GFA to curb the spread of the pandemic.

“The GFA is also reminding clubs that are still engaged in training to desist with immediate effect and fully respect the directive from H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo,” the statement added.
