2019/20 GPL: Liberty fightback not enough as Inter Allies win five-goal thriller

Inter Allies edged a five-goal thriller away to Liberty Professionals in their 2019/20 Ghana Premier League match-day 14 clash Thursday afternoon.

Quick-fire goals from Samuel Armah and Victorien Adebayor had given the visitors a 2-0 lead but George Ansong clawed one back before the half-time break. He again put Liberty – who refused to lie down – back on level terms in the second half but Inter Allies ensured they had the last laugh at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman with a late winner. 3-2 it ended.

The early stages of hostilities had both sides struggle to impose their style but the ‘Eleven Is To One’ succeeded in breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute when Armah pounced on teammate Abraham Okyere’s initially saved header by goalkeeper Ganiyu Shaibu.

Almost right from restart, Inter Allies snatched possession and Alex Aso fed a predating Adebayor to hit home the second and his 12th goal in 13 league appearances this season.

Liberty came back strongly late on in the first half and managed to reduce the deficit through George Ansong in the 42nd minute.

Two minutes after the hour mark, Ansong was on hand again to pull parity with a free header after some delectable buildup play involving Elvis Kyei-Baffour and Mohammed Alhassan.

When it all looked like ending in a draw, Inter Allies, who had been controlling play, had substitute Richmond Lamptey picking out Mohammed Zakari to finish from close range right on the 90th minute.

Inter Allies move to 10th on the league log with 19 points while Liberty Professionals stay 13th on 16 points.
