2019/20 GPL: Legon Cities obliterate WAFA

Legon Cities recorded their first victory in four games with a 4-1 thrashing of WAFA on match-day 13 of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League Friday night.

A brace by striker Cephas Doku and a goal each by Ebenezer Nii Addy and Yusif Fadili saw the Royals hand the Academy lads their first away defeat in the on-going campaign. Sampson Agyapong scored the visitors’ consideration goal at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The visitors, however, started on a high note but failed to take their chances.

Cephas Doku opened the floodgate on the 25th minute when he fed on Latif Abubakar’s pass brilliantly to put his side ahead.

But WAFA responded with a sumptuous goal two minutes from halftime break. Sampson Agyapong levelled with a well-crafted free-kick to beat goalkeeper Winfred Selorm in posts for Cities.

Legon Cities unsettled visiting WAFA with their second just three minutes after recess. Ebenezer Nii Addy scored with a powerful drive to restore his side’s lead.

Cephas Doku put the game beyond the reach of Coach Prosper Narteh’s charges with his second goal on the day. The striker unleashed a long-range strike which beat Prince Bilson for the hosts’ third goal.

Cities took a firm control of the game as WAFA struggled to put their passes together.

And with 10 minutes to end the game, Yusif Fadili put the icing on the cake by snatching the fourth goal for Legon Cities.

Richard Danso of WAFA got sent-off on the 90th minute after being shown a second yellow card.
