2019/20 GPL: Hearts drop points at home to Sharks

Hearts of Oak granted their rivals at the top to widen the gap after match-day 12 of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League following a 1-1 draw at home with Elmina Sharks on Sunday.

The Phobians were just four points away from the leaders but the difference has now gone up after dropping two valuable points at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sharks struck first courtesy with Dennis Mensah connecting beautifully to a corner kick with a left-foot volley from just inside the box on 25 minutes.

The visitors proved a strong opposition to Hearts who struggled to control midfield play.

But with six minutes to the end of the first half, striker Kofi Kordzi delivered the equalizer with a free header from a corner kick.

The second half did not provide any difference as Hearts continued to struggle to impose their style on the game, forcing coach Edward Nii Odoom to replace top marksman Joseph Esso – a move which further killed their attack.

Neither side could find the back of the net again as the game ended with a 1-1 draw.

Hearts of Oak, on 17 points, are 9th on the league log while Elmina Sharks sit two places above them with a point better. Aduana Stars and Berekum Chelsea are joint-top with 23 points from 12 games.
