Adebayor gave me sleepless night – Yahaya Mohammed

Aduana Stars top maskman, Yahaya Mohammed has revealed he suffered a sleepless night plotting how to match or outwit fellow goal-king contender Victorien Adebayor.

The Niger international showed class Saturday by scoring a brace to inspire Inter Allies to a 3-1 first-time victory away to Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park.

Heading into match-day 10 of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier Leagie, both players were tied on 8 goals each.

With Adebayor laying down the marker by moving his tally to 10 on Saturday, Yahaya needed to respond as Aduana Stars played guests to Liberty at Dansoman the following day.

And the versatile attacker rightly did so by scoring twice – the first a header from a corner and then tapping home a loose ball from close range. His brace was, however, not enough for his side who ended up conceding five goals.

Speaking to Asempa FM Monday, his 32nd birthday,  Yahaya Mohammed praised his closest contender Adebayor.

“He [Victorien Adebayor] is a super player.

“He played before me on Saturday and did really well. Scoring twice at Berekum and beating Chelsea there is huge…

“I will say on Saturday, he gave me slepless night because I was leading him and he overtook me by a two-goal margin and I had to do better.”

Yahaya Mohammed is expecting a tough race for this season’s top scorer award but remains confident the title would be his at the end of the season.

He said: “Every striker wants to be the top scorer. He [Adebayor] is pushing me and that will make me fight harder.

“I think the race is going to be tighter and topsy-turvy but I will prevail and win the goal-king title.”
