2019/20 GPL: Bottom-placed Dwarfs shock Aduana

The battle for top spot of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League took another interesting twist on match-day 8 as leaders Aduana Stars swapped positions with Berekum Chelsea following a shock defeat away to bottom side Ebusua Dwarfs Wednesday.

Berekum Chelsea, by virtue of their solitary goal victory over Karela United, move tops with 17 points, one better their Bono rivals.

Fast-improving Dwarfs impressively beat Aduana 3-1 at Cape Coast Stadium to move off the bottom of the league log.

Michael Asamoah gave them the lead on the half-hour mark before Seidu Abubakar doubled the advantage 8 minutes later.

Aduana’s Yahaya Mohammed pulled one back with a 79th-minute penalty – his first away goal as he moved his tally to 8 goals to remain top of the scorers’ chart.

This was after Albert Ato Hammond had missed a penalty which saw Farouk Adams red-carded.

And Dwarfs ensured they capitalized on the numerical advantage to extend the lead to 3-1 through Isaac Donkor on the 90th minute.

The victory means Dwarfs climb for the first time but only to 17th position while Aduana drop to second.
