Kwabena Owusu signs for Azerbaijan’s Qarabag FK

Ghana forward Kwabena Owusu has joined Azerbaijan champions Qarabag FK after cancelling his loan at Spanish lower-tier side Córdoba CF.

The 22-year-old permanently leaves Madrid-based LaLiga side CD Leganés after joining them in summer 2017 to sign a new deal with the Azerbaijani club until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The club announced Thursday:

“Qarabag made its first signing in the winter transfer window. Our team is joined by forward Owusu Kwabena from the squad of LaLiga side Leganés. The 22-year-old forward has signed a 3.5-year contract.”

This season, Kwabena Owusu started 13 times and scored six in 18 appearances before withdrawing from his loan spell with Córdoba at the halfway stage.

Qarabag FK becomes the four-times capped Ghana international’s first professional club outside Spain. He previously played for Toledo, Oviedo, Cartagena, Salamanca and Córdoba, all in the Spanish lower ranks.

Kwabena Owusu is expected to join his new teammates in training later on Thursday.
