AshantiGold have beaten King Faisal away for the first time since 2010, winning their 2019/20 Ghana Premier League match-day 2 clash 1-0 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The clearest scoring opportunity in a barren first half came the way of AshantiGold skipper Shafiu Mumuni who saw his thumping header met with an equally splendid save by goalkeeper Alexander Osei Domfeh.
But Domfeh found himself in deep waters in the 67th minute when he got sent off for handling the ball outside his area.
King Faisal were left to try and keep the Miners at bay for the remaining 23 minutes of regulation time.
But their numerical disadvantage came biting as AshGold found the opening through a set-piece.
Centre-back Yussif Mubarik, who was on the score sheet in the opening day win over Great Olympics, converted the free-kick on 71 minutes and that goal proved enough for AshGold to snatch a sweet victory in the Ashanti regional derby in Kumasi
AshantiGold move 4th on the league log on 6 points while King Faisal are without a point in two games.
