League leaders Berekum Chelsea were on the verge of making it six clean sheets in the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League but Pious Asante Yeboah pegged them to snatch a 1-1 draw for Aduana Stars in the Bono derby on Saturday.
The Bibires had kept five clean sheets in their first five games this campaign.
Stephen Amankona opened the scoring for Berekum Chelsea via a spot-kick on 17 minutes.
New boy and right-back, Isaac Kwain was spotted by Wa-based referee Alphonso Atiapa to have handled the ball while under pressure by the hosts and Amankona made no mistake in ensuring he planted home the opportunity given.
Aduana, though trailing, recovered from playing second best and took control of the game by a slight margin heading into halftime.
Returning from the break, things changed with Berekum Chelsea’s plan to halt Aduana’s midfield dominance working for large spells of the second half.
Then came the moment. Young attacker Pious Asante Yeboah, who was brought on in the 61st minute, ensured Aduana’s relentless efforts in threatening the Berekum Chelsea backline was rewarded. He put the ball past goalkeeper Danland Ibrahim for the first time this season, ensuring the Fire Club got back into the tie with the equalizer three minutes from time.
Berekum Chelsea, however, managed to keep their heads and see the game out, retaining their unbeaten start to the campaign and top spot on the league log with 14 points – from four wins and two stalemates.
