U-23 Afcon: Kwabena Owusu reinstated to Ghana XI against South Africa

After being restricted to substitute’s role in the last two games, forward Kwabena Owusu has been named in Ghana’s starting line-up for the crucial 2020 Olympic Games ticket decider against South Africa Friday afternoon.

The Black Meteors failed have had to fight for the last ticket and bronze medal at the 2019 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) after falling to Cote d’Ivoire via a penalty shootout heartbreak in the semifinals.

Owusu, who scored twice and provided an assist in both games he started from the bench, is the only change to coach Ibrahim Tanko’s lineup. He takes the place of Robin Polley who had earlier replaced him.

Goalkeeper Kwame Baah remains in the post with the quartet of Kingsley Fobi, Zackaria Fuseini, Habib Mohammed and Edward Sarpong in defence; Emmanuel Lomotey and Michael Agbekpornu in central midfield; Kwabena Owusu and Evans Mensah on the wings while skipper Yaw Yeboah plays behind Samuel Obeng in attack.

The Ghana vs South Africa encounter is scheduled for the Cairo International Stadium. Kickoff is at 14:00 GMT.
