Afcon 2021Q: Salisu pulls out of Ghana squad with back injury

Defender Salisu Mohammed is ruled out of Ghana’s matches against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers after suffering a back injury.

The 20-year-old centre-back had just earned a first-ever call-up to the Ghana national team but will now have to wait for his debut due to an acute mechanical low back pain.

Salisu, who has been on a fine form this season for Spanish LaLiga side Real Valladolid, according to the club, had been playing with some discomfort in the back for several weeks but reported intense pain in the area after featuring against Deportivo Alavés last Saturday.

The Black Stars play Bafana Bafana at Cape Coast on Thursday, November 14 before travelling to Sao Tome on Monday the 18th.
