GFA Elections: Kotoko CEO George Amoako withdrawn as delegate

George Amoako, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko, has lost the privilege of voting for himself and on behalf of the club at the upcoming Ghana FA Executive Council and presidential elections.

Mr. Amoako is contesting for one of five Premier League slots on the Executive Council which will be made up of 12 members including the new GFA President.

The latest twist is as a result of an exercise of the executive powers by club Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei on Monday – the final deadline for amendment of submitted delegates lists.

Isaac Donkor (also known as Perusha) – who is Kotoko’s Operations Manager and a trusted aide of Kwame Kyei – has been given the nod to replace Mr. Amoako and now joins Nana Kwasi Gyambibi ‘Coker’ as delegates.

“Perusha has taken the place of George Amoako. Where the decision is coming from is above me and, I wouldn’t be comfortable talking about it,” Nana Kwasi Gyambibi, the Special Aide to Kwame Kyei told Light FM.

Why?

The Porcupine Warriors have publicly declared their votes for George Afriyie in the presidential race but it has emerged that Mr. Amoako who made the pronouncement on behalf of the club is rather privately campaigning for a different presidential aspirant.

He is alleged to have said in a leaked audio that he would give his vote to a different candidate contrary to what the club and himself had publicly declared.

And this, club sources indicate informed Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei to remove Mr. Amoako from the club’s delegates list.

Footy-Ghana.com chanced on a private reaction from George Amoako in which the experienced administrator has said he is being ‘punished’ for not believing in the philosophy of the club’s preferred presidential candidate – George Afriyie.

Mr. Amoako joins the list of Executive Council hopefuls whose clubs have denied them voting powers in the upcoming October 24 and 25 polls. The others include Albert Aryeetey Commey and Frederick Moore, the CEOs for Aduana Stars and Hearts of Oak respectively as well as Berekum Chelsea Director, Nana Sarfo Oduro.
