GFA Elections: CAS rejects Palmer’s request for provisional measures

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the application for provisional and conservatory measures filed by Wilfred Kwaku Osei (Palmer) against the Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee.

By this decision, the immediate injunction sought on the presidential elections has been thrown out but the substantive case remains and will be heard at a later date.

In a letter dated 25th October 2019, the president of the Appeals Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sports ruled that,

  1. “The application for provisional and conservatory measures filed by Wilfred Kwaku Osei on 14 October 2019 in the matter of CAS 2019/A/6517 Wilfred Kwaku Osei vs Ghana Football Association is rejected.
  2. “The costs of this Order shall be determined in the final award or any final disposition of this arbitration.”

This paves way for the presidential election to take place during the Extraordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association which comes off today at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.

This Elective Congress will see the emergence of a new Ghana FA President since Kwesi Nyantakyi was ousted in June 2018.

Six personalities – Fred Pappoe, Kurt Okraku, Nana Yaw Amponsah, George Ankoma Mensah, Amanda Clinton and George Afriyie – are vetted and approved candidates for the post.
