Clubs form 8-member C’ttee to peruse proposed GFA Statutes by NC

Some stakeholders of Ghana football, on Tuesday, held a consultative forum ahead of the upcoming GFA Extraordinary Congress under the Normalization Committee (NC).

The forum held at Osu Presby Hall in Accra ended with the institution of an eight-member committee tasked to subject the proposed draft Statutes to close scrutiny before the September 5 gathering.

Attended by Premier League, Division One and Two clubs, Women Football Reps, RFA Reps, Constituent Bodies, and other Congress delegates, the forum tasked the 8-member committee to within a week, review the draft Statutes furnished them by the Normalization Committee to ensure they conform to current Fifa Standard Statutes.

The Committee is to also work on existing GFA Statutes and juxtapose it to that of the NC to ensure they are in accordance with the requirements of the Fifa Standard Statutes.

Randy Abbey, the bankroller of Heart of Lions, Mr. Ntow Fianko, Kofi Manu, Jones Abu Alhassan, AshantiGold CEO Frederick Acheampong, Fabulous Ladies President Madam Abiba Atta, acting Central Region FA Chairman Robert Duncan and Dreams FC’s Administrative Manager Ameenu Shardow who will serve as Secretary, form the Committee.

Speaking on the need for the exercise by some of the upcoming Congress’ delegates, Randy Abbey explained:

“You would realize that the Normalization Committee has come up with a draft Statutes which is going to govern the organization of football in this country so it is an extremely important document. That is going to be the primary document that will set the basis for a lot of things that we do.”

“And so it’s at the core of the function of football administration in Ghana. It is something that ought to be of primary concern to all stakeholders.

“That is why it’s so important to have such a gathering to also look at it and also find out whether indeed the proposals are in tune with best practice, they are fit for purpose and they can effect the kind of changes and development that we all aspire to have,” the former Ghana FA Executive Committee member noted.

The Normalization Committee formed by Fifa in consultation with the Government of Ghana in September 2018 was mandated to champion reforms for the country’s football following the corruption revelations involving some key officials by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The NC was to run the day-to-day affairs of the GFA, review the Statutes and organize elections for a new president and Executive Committee members.
