2019 President’s Cup: Hearts, Kotoko agree to new Sept. 8 date

The 2019 President’s Cup will now be honoured on Sunday, September 8 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Footy-Ghana.com can report.

And like in the last three (2015, 2016 and 2017), the 12th edition will be contested for by Ghana’s two most glamorous clubs – Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The 2019 President’s Cup had initially been marked for September 1 before Hearts made a counter proposal due to the Phobians’ pre-season schedule.

Following consultations over the past few days, Cup organizers – the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) – decided to settle on the new September 8 date, having received information from the Kotoko camp supporting the date change proposed by their arch-rivals.

Footy-Ghana.com gathers the Porcupine Warriors have on their calendar a  match in honour of veteran coach E.K Adusei against AshantiGold also slated for September 1 in Kumasi.

Back-to-back games against AshantiGold and Hearts, Kotoko believe would serve as good preparatory tests for the next round of the Caf Champions League should they succeed in eliminating Nigeria’s Kano Pillars on August 25.

A successful Kotoko will after then be using these two games to prepare to host one of Hafia Club or Etoile du Sahel in the first round of the Caf Champions League on September 15.

Footy-Ghana.com also understands that organizers of the President’s Cup have accepted to provide Hearts of Oak a bus for their trip to the match in Kumasi.
