Niger’s AS GNN hire Ghanaian coach Fatawu Abubakari

Ghana’s Fatawu Abubakari has been named new head coach of Nigerien topflight side Association Sportive des Gendarmerie Nationale Nigérienne (AS GNN) with immediate effect.

Abubakari, who previously worked with Inter Allies FC and New Edubiase United, was officially unveiled after signing a two-year deal Wednesday afternoon.

With a wealth of experience as a player and coach, the Caf License A holder is expected to mastermind to winning laurels in the new Niger league season which commences next month.

“I’m very happy to be here. The club has a very nice project and I feel honoured to be part of this exciting plan,” Abubakari said after his unveiling.

“The time has come to work extra harder to bring the best out of the players as we get set for the upcoming season,’’ he added.

Fatawu Abubakari was assistant to Rashid Iddi and later Umit Turmus at Inter Allies during the Normalization Special Competition a few months ago.

Before joining Inter Allies, he worked as the head coach of Division One side New Edubiase where he helped them to the top of Zone 2 before the league halted abruptly.
