Atanga joins Germany’s Holstein Kiel

Ghana’s David Atanga has signed a permanent contract with German side Holstein Kiel.

The Bundesliga II club confirmed landing the services of the young forward from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg on a three-year contract, ending June 30, 2022.

Atanga, 22, had spent the past season in the German second tier with Greuther Fürth and was reported to have courted interest from some French clubs.

“David Atanga is a great lad with huge potential and success ahead of him and we are glad we have been able to sign an extremely fast and flexible winger in him for our club, who can be used on both wings as well,” said Managing Director of Sport, Fabian Wohlgemuth.

“He is a very trickish customer on his day and has a dribbelstark, and he brings a high understanding of the game to our play which we so badly needed in the team at the moment.

“We believe Atanga will make our game even more flexible and faster with his versatility and abilities to get past players with ease and in tight situations as we saw during his time with the Ghana u-20 team,” Fabian added.

Atanga himself said: “Kiel is a strong and offensive team, where my strengths come in very well and I’m very happy to be part of this club now. My goal is for me to quickly integrate and help the team to bring ideas of coach Andre Schubert to life.”

David Atanga was a core member of Ghana’s Black Satellites squad at the 2015 Fifa U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
