Baba Rahman marks first Reims appearance in win over Rennes

On-loan Chelsea defender Baba Abdul Rahman finally marked his Stade de Reims debut with a 2-0 home victory over Stade Rennes in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The fit-again Ghanaian left-back joined the Stade Auguste Delaune outfit in the January transfer window but had yet to make an appearance until the match-day 25 fixture.

Reims raced into the lead with the first real attack of the game on two minutes. Tristan Dingomé helped on Rémi Oudin’s cross and Boulaye Dia was on hand with a finish that belied the fact it was just his second goal of the season.

The hosts returned to the second half keeping their pressure up and they doubled their advantage when Arber Zeneli slalomed forward, avoiding Jérémy Gelin’s tackle, before laying on a chance for Oudin which the attacker readily converted for 2-0 in the 68th minute.

Baba Rahman played full throttle as resurgent Reims extended their unbeaten run to nine straight Ligue 1 matches. Guion’s men haven’t lost since December, when they were edged 1-0 by Toulouse FC.
