Caf CC: Sefah suspended for Kotoko-Coton Sport home clash

Asante Kotoko defender Augustine Sefah has been ruled out of Sunday’s crucial Caf Confederation Cup playoff home clash with Coton Sport FC of Cameroon.

The experienced right-back, who had played full throttle in all three games for Kotoko so far, will not be at the disposal of head coach CK Akonnor on grounds of yellow card accumulation, club officials have confirmed.

Sefa’s unavailability stands to be a blessing in disguise for fit-again left-back Abass Mohammed. The 24-year-old is yet to taste action in the Confederation Cup having missed both legs against Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks as a result of an injury in a preparatory game against his former club Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Abass, who had prior to his injury, looked to have cemented the first-choice role at left-back, saw his absence for coach Akonnor into deploying team captain Amos Frimpong as makeshift left-back while Sefah did the job of defending on the right.

Abass Mohammed was an unused substitute in the Kotoko squad that traveled to beat Coton Sport 3-2 in the playoff first leg last Sunday.

Asante Kotoko will host the Cameroonians in a tie decider at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, January 20. The winner advances to the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup group stage. Kickoff is at 15:00 GMT.
