Kwabena Owusu: “It’s my dream to play for Black Stars”

Following his hat-trick heroics against Togo in the 2019 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Tuesday, striker Kwabena Owusu says his ultimate target is an opportunity with the senior men’s national team, the Black Stars.

The Black Meteors hammered their Togolese counterpart 5-1 in the first leg of the round one of the qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The CD Leganés (on loan at Salmanca UDS) forward netted three goals, with Nassam Ibrahim and Osman Bukari scoring a goal each to hand Ghana huge advantage.

“…It’s my dream to play for the Black Stars. It’s not only me but I think every member of this squad will say same [when asked].

“I’m happy with the goals I scored but the job is not done until we play the second leg.

“I think it will boost my confidence in the second leg. Hopefully we’ll get the needed result to advance to the next round,” Owusu said.

The second leg is slated for Saturday, December 22 in Lomé.

The winner of the two legs will battle Gabon in the next round of the qualifiers.

The 2019 U-23 Afcon, which serves as a qualifying tournament to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics football tournament, is scheduled to take place in Egypt.
