Raja host confident Vita Club in Caf CC final first-leg

Raja Casablanca will battle with AS Vita Club in the 2018 Caf Confederation Cup final first-leg match at the Stade Mohammed V on Sunday.

Kickoff is at 19h00 GMT.

The Green Eagles booked their place in the final after defeating Nigerian giants Enyimba 3-1 on aggregate in the semifinals last month.

Goals from Zakaria Hadraf, Abdelilah Hafidi and Isiaka Oladuntoye (own-goal) helped the Moroccan giants reach the final of the continental tournament.

Raja won the Confederation Cup in 2003 when it was still known as the Caf Cup. The competition was then merged with the Caf Cup Winners’ Cup, and was renamed the Caf Confederation Cup.

The Green Eagles have been struggling in local competitions having been eliminated from the 2018 Moroccan Throne Cup by a lower division side Wydad de Fes.

Juan Carlos Garrido, the Raja head coach, has been under pressure, but he is confident that his side will bounce back.

“We continue to fight, we are competitive, we work, we suffer and we progress,” Garrido told 360 Sport.

“We are not robots and it is impossible to always perform at the highest level. We make mistakes, but we react.”

Raja will look to their inspirational captain Badr Banoun, who has been one of the best players in this year’s Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, Vita Club progressed into the final after thumping Egyptian side Al Masry 4-0 on aggregate in the semifinals last month.

Emomo Eddy Ngoyi (brace), Jean-Marc Makusu Mundele and Mukoko Batezadio all netted for the DR Congolese champions.

The Black Dolphins will be making their debut appearance in the Confederation Cup final having reached the semifinals of the 1976 Caf Cup Winners’ Cup and 1996 Caf Cup.

Striker Mundele, who has been in good scoring form in the tournament, stated that they are looking to secure a positive result in Morocco.

“We are very calm and confident. We are continuing with our preparations. It’s cold (in Morocco), but it’s not that bad,” Makusu said Foot-CD.

“We are here to get the best possible result which is very important for us.”

Mundele is also Vita Club’s dangerman having scored 10 goals in the competition and the forward will look to add to his tally, and help his side win.
