2019 AfconQ: Boye, Adams pull out of Ghana squad

Ghana have been dealt with a double injury blow with defenders John Boye and Kassim Adams Nuhu ruled out of next weekend’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.

Coach Kwasi Appiah is being forced to look for replacements after both centre-backs sustained various injuries on club duties.

Boye – who was to make a return to the Black Stars team after one year out – sustained a muscle injury within 15 minutes of FC Metz’s Coupe de la Ligue penalty shootout win over RC Lens last Tuesday. The injury also kept him out of Saturday’s Lgiue 2 fixture against the same side.

Adams is also out with an ankle injury and feared to be facing the sidelines for up to four weeks, preliminary medical examination update by German side TSG Hoffenheim forwarded to the Ghana officials indicated. Adams came off injured just before the halftime of Hoffenheim’s 3-1 home victory against SC Freiburg on Saturday.

The Black Stars will open a 5-day camp in Addis Ababa before taking on the Harambee Stars at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi on September 8.

With a 5- win over Ethiopia, Ghana sit top of Group F with 3 points; followed by Sierra Leone who also defeated Kenya 1-0 in the opening round of the qualifiers last year.
