“Pleased” Ayew to wear No. 20 at Fenerbahçe

Andre Ayew will wear the number 20 shirt during his season-long loan spell at Turkey’s Fenerbahçe SK.

The 28-year-old was presented in a ceremony at the Ülker Stadium Friday after passing his medical.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ayew said he was “pleased” by Fenerbahçe’s interest from the first moment.

“To be honest, as soon as I heard about the interest from Fenerbahçe, it was something which pleased me straight away,” he stated.

The Ghana international continued: “It is true that we had other contacts in England and outside but Fenerbahçe is a very big club. A club which has a new project, new sporting director (Damien Comoli), new chairman… so this project was something that touched me and I believe in so I saw the future of Fenerbahçe is bright and I wanted to be part of it.”

“I know there’s a lot of expectations in the club, from the fans and that’s why I’m here to make sure that Insha Allah, everything goes well,” said Ayew.

As part of the agreement which sees Ayew, who is contracted to Swansea City for three more years, spend the entire 2018/19 season at Fenerbahçe, the Turkish giants have the option to make his stay permanent at the end of the campaign.

Andre Ayew is now the 4th Ghanaian to be signed by Fenerbahçe after compatriots Sam Johnson, Yaw Preko and Stephen Appiah.
