Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan may not have gauged the mood of his followers well in this Anas exposé period on corruption in Ghana football when he took to Twitter to rally support for the team ahead of their international assignment against Iceland.
The senior national team will play the Boys tonight at the Laugardalsvollur.
Gyan, in a ‘harmless’ post, replying to journalist Juliet Bawuah’s tweet on the match, expressed worry that the Black Stars have been relegated to the background as the talk around the alleged corruption revelations now dominate discussions.
It’s soo sad our national team is playing and we not even talking about it. We have forgotten football took Ghana where we are today. Now everything in Ghana is about politics. Smh

The reactions from his followers really expressed how Ghanaians are annoyed with the corrupt acts of the Nyantakyi-led football system.

Come on. You want Ghanaians to pretend to be happy with football in Ghana and the black stars after all what was revealed yesterday? Get serious.

But the captain, eager and passionate about the Black Stars, was never perturbed and still garnered support for the team. 75 minutes later, the 32-year-old tweeted again saying:
In spite of the difficult times, my plea is, as we leave the matters to the appropriate authorities, the National Team is out there in a friendly today and still deserves some support cos it's Ghana…#IstandwithmyCountry
— ASAMOAH GYAN (@ASAMOAH_GYAN3) June 7, 2018
But further response from the followers were intensified as most tweets urged Gyan to ignore the friendly encounter.
