Rasmussen resigns from WAFA for family reasons

Danish coach Klavs Rasmussen has quit his job at Ghana Premier League side WAFA SC.

A club statement Friday said: ”We wish to inform you that our coach Klavs Rasmussen has resigned from WAFA SC to attend to some pressing family issues.

”We thank him for the work he has done for WAFA and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

While the club says the trainer’s departure is due to family reasons, it is strongly believed that their patch of poor form in the league is a major contributing factor to his decision to resign.

An unhappy Rasmussen lamented fixture pile-up for his very young squad as one of reasons for the Academy Boys’ struggles after they drew 1-1 with leaders AshantiGold on Wednesday.

It was their first point after four consecutive defeats.

The 51-year-old said: “If you look at the problem in perspective for us we don’t have time to train because we play in midweek and on weekends. So if we had trained more regularly, we wouldn’t have suffered these defeats.”

Klavs Rasmussen joined WAFA SC in November 2016 and steered to the club to an impressive second place finish in the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.

Assistant coach Moro Ibrahim (left in the above picture) takes interim charge while management looks for Rasmussen’s replacement. Moro is an ex-player who once played for Real Tamale United and Heat of Lions in the Ghanaian topflight.
