GFA StarTimes Gala: Hearts and Kotoko knocked out

Former Champions Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak suffered elimination at the first ask in the 2018 GFA StarTimes Gala competition which kicked off at Nduom Stadium in Elmina on Saturday.

Elmina Sharks, whose home grounds is being used for the competition, nicked a win over Kotoko courtesy a Benjamin Tweneboa strike in the third knockout game of the day

Later on, four-time winners Hearts of Oak also suffered a 6-5 penalty shootouts defeat to city rivals Great Olympics after their game ended goalless at fulltime.

In the opening game of the competition, Ghana Premier League new entrants Eleven Wonders beat New Edubiase 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in regulation time.

The all-topflight clash between Inter Allies and Ebusua Dwarfs also ended 1-1 the ‘Eleven Is To One’ side winning 5-4 on penalties.

Medeama recorded the biggest win of the day, 3-0 over Berekum Chelsea while Wa All Stars pipped second tier side Vision by a lone goal.

Dreams FC defeated Division One side FC Samartex 2-0 after Bechem United recorded a similar win over NEA Salamina in an earlier match.

Below are the quarterfinals stage of the competition set for Sunday:

  1. Eleven Wonders vs Inter Allies (10:00am)
  2. Elmina Sharks vs Medeama SC (11:00am)
  3. Wa All Stars vs Great Olympics (12:00pm
  4. Bechem United vs Dreams FC (1:00pm)
