Wafu Women’s Cup: Black Queens draw hosts Cote d’Ivoire

Ghana’s Black Queens have been drawn with hosts Cote d’Ivoire in Group A of the inaugural West African Football Union (Wafu) Women’s Cup.

Burkina Faso and Niger complete the group.

Group B has reigning African champions Nigeria, Benin, Senegal and Togo.

Hosts Ivory Coast, who were dropped in the recent Fifa ranking, will finally be in action after more than two years of inactivity while Ghana, who also host the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations later this year get use the championship to keep their shape.

The other six countries will also use the regional competition to prepare themselves for the rigorous qualifiers to the Women’s Afcon.

The first ever Wafu Women’s Cup is to be held in the capital city of Abidjan.

The eight-nation competition is scheduled for February 10–24.
