Super Cup: GFA shoots down Aduana’s venue change request

The GFA Super Cup clash between Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko will come off at the Len Clay Stadium this Sunday January 28 as scheduled.

The one-off cup game between the league champions and FA Cup winners was confirmed for Obuasi last week but the choice of venue did not go down well with Aduana.

The 2016/17 Ghana Premier League champions officially wrote the Ghana FA demanding a change of venue on the grounds that Obuasi was much closer to Kotoko and hence gives the Kumasi-based club some undue advantage.

But the country’s football governing body has knocked back the request. In a response to Aduana’s letter on Tuesday, the GFA said

Aduana Stars had threatened to abandon the game entirely should their request be turned down.

The Dormaa-based club won last season’s league with 57 points while Asante Kotoko lifted the FA Cup after thrashing arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 3-1 in the final at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, Tamale.
