Kotoko name Godwin Ablordey youth team technical director

Godwin Ablordey has been relieved of his Team Manager role at Asante Kotoko’s senior side for a new appointment as the new Technical Director of the Youth Team.

This was part of changes to the technical departments of the senior and the youth teams undertaken by the club’s management on Wednesday.

As announced by Kotoko, the “move falls in line with the vision of the club’s management to restructure, strengthen and sharpen the focus of its senior and developmental teams ahead of a season that would see both sides compete for honours.”

Since retiring from the game, Ablordey who captained Kotoko during his days, has taken a number of football coaching courses and is currently a Caf Licence ‘A’ holder.

Having gained a lot of experience at the senior side where he has stepped in as assistant coach and acting head in recent years, Ablordey is expected to impact his knowledge and technical expertise on the Kotoko young guns.

He will work with Ernest Appau who maintains his job as Head Coach of the Kotoko Youth Team.

Meanwhile, another former captain, Henry Ohene Brenya, has taken Ablordey’s place as Kotoko’s Team Manager while club great Stephen Oduro has been named new Welfare Manager.

“Management believes that a well-resourced youth side would reduce the huge expenditure that the club spends on recruiting players every season.

“It is expected that turning an eye towards the youth side would rejuvenate it to serve its purpose as a credible well from which Kotoko taps.

“Asante Kotoko seeks to holistically improve on welfare, training facilities and a scouting system that brings the best talents to the club,” reads an announcement on www.asantekotokosc.com.
