Ghalca G8: Hearts oust Kotoko on PKs to reach final

Hearts of Oak beat arch-rivals Asante Kotoko 4-2 on penalties to reach the Ghalca G8 Tournament final, following a tense goalless draw in Kumasi on Wednesday.

It was an all-action semifinals clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Clear chances were at a minimum with both teams going close to scoring.

After 90 minutes, the teams could not be separated and the game went straight into penalty shootout as per the competition rules.

This, the Phobians emerged 4-2 winners with Malik Akowuah scoring the winning goal.

Jackson Owusu and Eric Donkor missed Kotoko’s first and fourth kicks while Richard Akrofi also missed one of Hearts of Oak’s kicks.

Hearts of Oak will be awaiting the winner of the second semifinals between Medeama and Dreams FC in Sunday’s grand finale at the Cape Coast Stadium.
