Ghalca G8: Hearts down Dwarfs, join Medeama into semis

Hearts of Oak joined Medeama to qualify from Group B into the last four of the Ghalca G8 Tournament on Sunday.

New boy Richard Zumah came off the bench to register a brace as the Phobians labored to a 3-2 victory over Ebusua Dwarfs in their final group game at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Stephen Bentil shot Dwarfs into the lead with a header off a Moro Adams corner kick in the 28th minute.

Hearts however pegged back three minutes later as right-back Christopher Bonney converted a penalty against his former club.

Three minutes after the hour mark, Joseph Esso restored the lead for Dwarfs also with a penalty.

Then came the emergence of Richard Zumah, a trialist from lower tier side Emmanuel City FC. The lanky striker, who had come on for Ivorian Alex Kouame, received a pass from Daniel Kordie, rounded off the Dwarfs goalkeeper before slotting home to make it 2-2 in the 65th minute.

With four minutes left to the 90, Zumah popped up again to score the match winner for Hearts.

In the other final group game, Medeama who had won their first two, drew goalless with Karela United and maintained their top spot in Group B on 7 points. They are joined into the semis by the Phobians who amassed 6 points.

Medeama will face Dreams FC while Hearts take on arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in the semifinals of the Ghalca G8 Tournament.
