GFA-StarTimes Gala to be launched today [All You Need to Know]

The Ghana FA is set to launch its revived pre-season knockout competition dubbed the ‘GFA-StarTimes Gala’ today Wednesday, January 24.

The ceremony is scheduled for the Conference room of the Ghana FA Secretariat in Accra at 1100GMT.

Top GFA officials, representatives of sponsors StarTimes as well as participating clubs are expected to grace the occasion.

The two—day knockout competition is scheduled to be played on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th February, 2018 at Nduom Stadium, Elmina.

Last week, the Ghana FA announced the confirmed list of 16 clubs for this year’s Gala.

The participating clubs in this year’s invitational Gala include eleven Premier League sides for the 2017/18 season and five teams selected from all three zones in the Division One League.

Premier League:

Berekum Chelsea, Bechem United, Inter Allies, Eleven Wonders, Dreams FC, Medeama, Elmina Sharks, Ebusua Dwarfs, Hearts of Oak, Wa All Stars, and Asante Kotoko.

Division One:

Great Olympics, NEA Salamina, Vision FC, New Edubiase and FC Samartex

As Footy-Ghana.com previously revealed, a total of $45,000 will be purely awarded to the 16 participating teams according to how they finish in the Gala.

Each participating club is guaranteed an appearance fee of $2,500. Progressing through to the last four will have each club gain a further $500.

Runners-up in the final can console themselves with a $1,000 prize while eventual winners will pocket $2,000.

Below is the entire breakdown of prize money pool for the GFA/StarTimes Gala:

Appearance fee – $2,500 per club – (Totaling $40,000)

Last 4 teams – $500 each – (Totaling $2,000)

Runner-up – $1,000

Winner – $2,000        

The Gala competition was last played in 2005 with Asante Kotoko emerging as winners.
