2017/18 GPL start to clash with Kotoko, Aduana Africa openers – report

Ghana’s Caf inter-club representatives Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko may have to start their 2017/18 Ghana Premier League campaigns with a game in hand if the domestic league starts on February 10 as announced in the GFA’s three-season calendar.

The two clubs are scheduled to honour their preliminary round first leg games in the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions.

League Champions Aduana Stars travel to Egypt on the weekend of February 9-11 to face Libya’s Al-Tahaddy in the Caf Champions League while FA Cup winners Asante Kotoko also host Conngo’s Cara Brazzaville at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in a Confederation Cup prelims first leg game on Sunday February 11.

The February 10 start date for the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League, though announced as approved by the Executive Committee, stands to be ratified by Congress, Footy-Ghana.com understands.

It remains to be seen if the Ghana FA’s Premier League Board will go ahead with the announced program.

Last season saw a similar ‘coincident’ where Champions Wa All Stars were on Africa duty while the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League was commencing.
