Wakaso confident Alaves can escape relegation

Deportivo Alaves midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is adamant the club has what it takes to avoid relegation from the La Liga by the end of the season.

Alaves’ impressive performance last season earned them 9th position in the La Liga and a Copa del Rey finals feat where they were beaten 3-1 by Barcelona.

But they have had a rather poor start to the season despite some good signings in the summer.

Alaves occupy bottom spot with only three points after match day 10.

According to the Ghana international, there is chance to catch up and avoid the drop hence the need for a winning mentality within the team.

“The coach was happy with the work of the team and the players despite our defeat to Valencia (2-1) last weekend. But we have to think that we have to win games already,” said Wakaso who this week received his first national team call-up under returnee coach Kwasi Appiah.

“There are always things to improve on to avoid relegation. We have to score goals because other teams in front of us do not have many points.”

“We have the same mentality of winning and surviving and we believe it will be a reality in the end,” he added.

Wakaso, who joined in the summer, has made five appearances for the Babazorros in the La Liga.
