NEW SAVIOUR: Partey happy to help Atletico Madrid

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has revealed his delight after he netted a stoppage-time winner during Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna.

Atleti went into Saturday’s match at the Riazor having drawn their three previous games in all competitions and they looked on course for another stalemate until the Ghana international popped up with a 92nd-minute winner.

The 24-year-old has now netted four goals in all competitions this season and he admits he is delighted to be contributing to the team on a regular basis, particularly as he was forced to play a bit-part role during the previous two seasons.

Speaking after the victory over Deportivo, Partey said: “It was a difficult match. We knew how to suffer and defend well. In the end, we deserved the three points.

“I’m doing well and I’m happy with my hard work,” he continued. “I’m going to keep fighting in order to be able to play more. We’re happy to have gotten the three points.”

Los Rojiblancos are eight points off the top of the La Liga standings heading into the international break and they face a huge match against city neighbours Real Madrid when they return to La Liga action on November 18.
