The 2017/18 Ghana Premier League (GHPL) will kick-start Saturday, February 10 once the proposed date is ratified by Congress.
The Premier League Board, after preparing its calendar for the upcoming season, forwarded the proposed start date to the Ghana Football Association for approval by Congress.
The Ghana FA, we understand, has fixed to hold its Ordinary Session of Congress in December at Tamale where they will review the past season before the new one gets into session.
Congress will also approve the demotion of three clubs from the top-flight – Accra Great Olympics, Tema Youth and Bolga All Stars.
Dreams FC, Karela United and Techiman Eleven Wonders are already awaiting to replace the above mentioned clubs after winning their respective Division One League zones.
Congress will likely amend some statutes of the Ghana Football Association for the path to be cleared for the start of the Ghana top-flight.
Meanwhile, some clubs are beginning to return for pre-season training ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. The Ghana League Clubs Association (Ghalca) is also preparing feverishly to hold its annual pre-season tournament. This year, the country’s flagship off-season football competition will have eight teams participating from January 6-21, 2018.
