Accam out for a month after hernia surgery

Ghana midfielder David Accam is out until the end of year after undergoing a successful surgery, his club Chicago Fire has announced.

The 27-year-old had a corrective bilateral sports hernia surgery Tuesday.

Accam, who has proven to be an important part of the Fire club, is expected to be back to full health later in December as he also recovers from a hip injury.

“The procedure was performed without complication by Dr. William Hutchinson at the Pacific Coast Hernia Center,” a Chicago Fire statement read.

Accam appeared in 30 matches and played 2,177 minutes for the Men In Red this season, both career highs for his time in Major League Soccer. He additionally set MLS career highs with 14 goals to his name and a team-leading eight assists in 2017.

Barring any setback, the Right To Dream Academy graduate is expected to be cleared for the start of Chicago Fire’s training camp for the new MLS season in January.
