2016/17 GHPL: Aduana crowned Champions, receive $30k prize money

Aduana Stars have been officially crowned champions of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.

The Ogya boys received their glittering trophy and gold medals after defeating Berekum Chelsea 2-1 in a coronation match at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park on Sunday. Bright Adjei and Derrick Sasraku scored quick-fire goals for Aduana in the first half before substitute Stephen Baffour halved the deficit with a penalty in the 54th minute.

Aduana were also presented $30,000 by the Premier League Board as prize money for their title triumph.

The Dormaa-based champions are now two-time winners of the Ghana Premier League, with their first coming in 2010 under former coach Herbert Addo who passed away a couple of months ago.

This year, Coach Yusif Abubakar led the side to the new feat at the first ask after taking over the technical team prior to the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

Aduana amassed 57 points out of a possible 90 to win the title and were the top scoring side with 45 goals. They recorded 16 wins, 9 draws and five defeats.

A total of 528 goals were scored at the end of the 240 games played in the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.

Aduana Stars will represent Ghana in the 2018 Caf Champions League.
