Exclusive: 2018 Chan hosts Morocco seek Ghana, Nigeria friendlies

New 2018 Chan hosts Morocco intend to intensify their preparations for the tournament with two high profile friendlies against Wafu Cup finalists Ghana and Nigeria, Footy-Ghana.com can reveal exclusively.

Morocco replaced Kenya as new hosts for the fifth edition of the African Nations Championship last weekend and are sounding out intentions to successfully host and win the competition.

Footy-Ghana sources in the Northern African country report that Atlas Lions coach Jamal Sellami has requested to host these games against the West African giants later in November.

Morocco will be heading to camp November 6 for a 9-day period at the Mamoura center in Salé before facing Ghana and Nigeria. They could play a third opponent in Sudan should negotiations sail through.

The local Atlas Lions play their friendly matches at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat but the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca could host one of the meetings against  Wafu champions Ghana and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Footy-Ghana.com is unable to confirm if the Ghana FA has accepted to honour the friendly request. Initial contacts made with the management of the local Black Stars indicated the team is yet to be informed of any agreement reached with Morocco.

Ghana will not be competing at the 2018 Chan after falling to Burkina Faso in the qualifiers while Nigeria managed to secure their place after accounting for neighbours Benin.

The 2018 Chan is scheduled for January 12 to February 4.
