Caf to reveal new Chan 2018 hosts in Lagos

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) is expected to announce its new choice to replace Kenya as hosts of the 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) this weekend.

A new host for the fifth edition of the competition exclusive to players plying their trades in their respective countries could likely be announced at the end of Caf’s Emergency Committee meeting set for Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday October 14.

In September, Caf opened up for new bids after stripping Kenya of the rights due to their lack of preparedness.

Three countries – Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia and Morocco slapped in their bids to become the new hosts but it is the latter which sources say remain firm favourites to be given the nod.

Caf had initially indicated its decision could have been communicated on the weekend of 7-8 October but during the period, Africa was busy with the penultimate round of the qualifiers to the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The 2018 Chan is scheduled to be held from January 12 to February 4, 2018.
