Aduana Stars: New Ghana champions spent $455k for the title, says CEO

Aduana Stars CEO, Albert Commey has revealed the club expended as much as GH¢2 million (approx US$455,o00) in their title bid this season.

The Dormaa lads are 2016/17 Ghana Premier League champions-elect after defeating Elmina Sharks in the penultimate round last Sunday.

But their success story did not come cheap.

For a league campaign whose dethroned champions took a $30,000 (over GH¢130,000) prize money, Aduana say it has cost them GH¢2 million to win a second title in their 8-year history in the top division.

‘’I will tell you not less than 2 million cedis. That’s what we needed to become stable,” Commey told Joy  Sports.

The former Hearts of Oak spokesperson who has been in charge as CEO of Aduana since 2013 however explained the figure involves all expenses from preparations for the season, coach and player recruitment as well as salaries and bonuses.

The 2016/17 Ghana Premier League has been played with no headline sponsor. It however has StarTimes as TV rights holder.
