Michael Akuffo lands in Ethiopia to sign Mekelle Ketema deal

Michael Akuffo has agreed in principle to join newly promoted Ethiopian Premier League outfit Mekelle Ketema.

The 29-year-old midfielder arrived in Addis Ababa on Monday.

Akuffo, who is leaving Asante Kotoko after only making a return to the club last December, is expected to sign a one-year deal with the money bags who base in Mekelle, the northern part of Ethiopia.

Mekelle Ketema have also signed another Ghanaian, Masalachi Baba Adam. The defender joins after ending his stint with the now relegated Lebanese side El Egtmaeey.

Mekelle who are bent on maintaining their premiership status also completed a marquee signing of former Orlando Pirates and Equatorial Guinea national team goalkeeper Felipe Ovono last week.

With the arrival of the duo, Ghana can now count as many as six of its nationals joining the Ethiopian top-flight in one week.

Last season, the likes of former Hearts defender Kweku Andoh, Adamu Mohammed and Gabriel Jetro competed in the league.

The 2017/18 Ethiopian Premier League is set to start in October.
