2018 WCQ: No Gyan, Ayews, Afful for Ghana vs Congo in Brazzaville

Four key players will not be available for Ghana’s World Cup qualifying tie against Congo at the Stade Municipal de Kintélé in Brazzaville on Tuesday.

Captains Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew are out of the reckoning for the Black Stars following injuries sustained in last Friday’s 1-1 draw with the Red Devils in Kumasi. Gyan was substituted due to a suspected groin injury just after the hour mark while Andre left the field minutes later with a suspected thigh strain. The West Ham player’s injury was further confirmed at training on Sunday.

The younger Ayew, Jordan, has also been ruled out due to a stomach upset.

Also, Ghana’s most reliable right-back Harrison Afful has also reported of a stomach problem just like the Swansea City forward. Coupled with fitness issues which kept him out of the starting lineup last Friday, Afful will not feature in Tuesday’s game. He will however travel with the team to Brazzaville.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ebenezer Ofori has expressed his readiness to travel with the team after armed robbers raided his home and made away with valuables including a Range Rover vehicle with registration number GS 2026 – 17. The Vfb Stuttgart was excused from the Black Stars’ training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday morning.

The Black Stars are scheduled to leave Accra for Brazzaville later in the day.

With just two points from three games in Group E, Ghana will need nothing but victory if they are to keep their slender hopes of making it to the Russia World Cup alive. Uganda lead the pack with 7 points while Egypt follow on six.

Kickoff for the Congo-Ghana game on Tuesday is at 14:30 GMT.
