Schalke consider second loan spell for Baba Rahman

German giants Schalke 04 have confirmed their intentions to sign Ghana’s Baba Abdul Rahman on another loan deal this season.

Rahman, who has contract with London-based club Chelsea FC running till 2020, spent last season on loan at the Gelsenkirchen-based side.

The 23-year-old defender, however picked up a cruciate ligament injury during the Cup of Nations with Ghana in January, one which ruled him out of the season.

“We are in talks with the player, his advisor, and Chelsea,” Sporting director Christian Heidel told the club’s website.

“Ultimately, it is about when Baba will be able to play again. No decision has yet been made.

“Nothing is planned, but you should never say never in football.

“I do not know what will happen tomorrow, the day after or next week. The fact is a transfer is possible until August 31, but our squad is very good in terms of quality and depth.”

Baba Rahman stepped up his recovery from the serious knee injury late June but is said to still be some way off match fitness.
