Brighton decided against signing FC Zurich striker Raphael Dwamena due to a heart condition, according to reports in Switzerland.
The Premier League new boys had agreed terms of a reported £10m deal to sign the 21-year-old from the Swiss side.
The deal was subject to medical, international clearance as well as work permit.
However, on Friday, the Ghana international’s Premier League dream was dealt a huge blow after undertaking a mandatory medical. The results were not satisfactory prompting Seagulls manager Chris Hughton to pull the plug on the deal.
Brighton issued a statement on the botched deal but failed to give further explanations.
In a response, FC Zurich have expressed surprise at the development regarding the player they signed from Austria just eight months ago.
It is the second time this summer Albion have pulled out of a deal due to a player failing a medical. Before Raphael Dwamena, they were set to sign Brazilian midfielder Renato Neto from Belgian club Gent until the medical revealed a knee condition.
